Avigilon Turning From Niche to Mainstream
One of the pioneers in multimegapixel technology, Avigilon used to focus on education and scientific research verticals. Long gone are the days of proprietary protocols and compression formats. Today's Avigilon is ONVIF-compliant, offering complete solutions from 1 to 29 megapixels, hardware to software, and front to back. “We are not just a surveillance company; we are an innovation company,” said Keith Marett, VP of Marketing and Communications, Avigilon. This spirit of innovation helped the company secure a 77% revenue jump in Q1 of 2012, compared to the same period last year. “We're making necessary investments, including human resources, to accelerate that growth.”
Aside from large-area applications, Avigilon is eyeing the gaming and retail verticals, where operational efficiency can be improved, and management headaches and energy/maintenance costs reduced. Although certain pockets have been negatively impacted by recent financial instability, the speed at which Avigilon expands its reach is not slowing down. “Significant growth is coming from the U.S., Russia and Germany, and we have high hopes and strategic plans for the Middle East, Latin America and APAC,” Marett said.
The biggest challenges for Avigilon right now are getting the required talent to meet the exponential growth in sales and clientele and fortifying partner networks across the globe. “Building relationships takes time.”
