Alarm Zones?
There
are many basic terms and definitions when it comes to understanding a home or
business burglar alarm system. One such definition is an alarm zone. Each
window or door integrated into the system is considered a zone. In other words,
a zone is a simple way of separating the alarm devices which work in
conjunction with your alarm panel. Therefore, if your front door is attached to
Zone 1, every time that door is opened the “Zone 1” light on your alarm keypad
should light up. This is beneficial not only for the home or business owner,
but for the monitoring station as well. Because the system is divided by zones,
the station will know what area triggered the alarm.
A basic alarm system is capable of controlling
about six to eight zones. However, many panels permit the addition of expansion
modules that allow the system to monitor up to 32 zones or more.
For wireless alarm systems, installers will
assign one zone per device. On the other hand, an installer may choose to make
a hardwire system with one zone comprised of multiple devices. For example,
Zone 1 might be the master bedroom, which in turn is made up of both a motion
